If you’re like me, then you use music as a way to escape the gray prison of life and step to a world quite not your own and live throughout the stories told by the artist. If you’re like me, you also do this while smoking to amplify the feeling. This list will detail five of the best artist who create such mesmerizing worlds, that you can’t only explore them when under the influence.
Most of these songs on this list are going to be part of the Hip-Hop genre so sue me. This listen is in my particular order.
1. The Weeknd
The Weekend, a new addition to the R&B scene, paints these gloomy pictures of one night stands and an uncontrollable lust for the opposite sex. His voice is soft against the dark sound selection he tends use. Each track is heart bumping and persuasive sending your mind into a blank abyss.
My personal favorite Weeknd song to listen to when I’m smoking is The Birds Pt. 1.
Currensy also known as Spitta should be on every stonners play list, since he is the pure definition of “stonner rapper” every song he crafts is an extension of his everyday life against smooth mind relaxing production.
If you just want to get away from the day to day grind and just sit back and listen to some cool melodies while smoking, than put on the Spitta’s track “Breakfast” from his Pilot Talk album.
To change the pace I decided to add everyone’s favorite grunge band Nirvana. I feel their music is so relaxing thanks to the soothing voice of Kurt Cobain. Songs such as “Come as You Are” and “Lithium” can work as party themes, but you won’t understand the complexity of these titles until you nice and baked.
My favorite song to listen to while smoking it “Breed” which just keeps my head nodding all night long.
2. Kendrick Lamar
For those of you who only follow the main stream music scene, you probably hadn’t heard of Kendrick Lamar until his single “Swimming Pools” hit the airwaves. For the rest of us, we’ve been smoking and listen to the gnarly tunes of Kendrick Lamar way back when he was still called K-Dot.
He like The Weeknd utilizes production that so odd, yet so dark that it plays tricks with mind and transfer you to a world you can only appreciate when you’re under the influence.
1. Kid Cudi
Cudi offers something that most other artist doesn’t offer and that’s a sense of truly not caring if he’s accepted into the mainstream music universe. In the process he creates a dangerously hostile world of lames, creeps, and maniacs. He’s not the best rapper or the best singer but he combines both into a stonners wet dream. So sit back and just relax to songs like “Maniac” and Solo Dolo”, and experience the magical world of King Wizard.
